I sort of disagree with the thrust of this thread.

I find the mags very useful, as they let me know what's on the market.
I don't have anyone else interested in seriously good audio where I
live, and I wouldn't know about anything new without the mags. Although
they mostly review very expensive equipment, they also review "value"
items like the Duet and even budget items, like $40 earphones.

In addition, when reading the reviews they often compare two similar
products: I find this useful, as I can often tell which one of the two
I'd prefer - just from the description.

There are also certain reviewers that I've learned I can trust. There
are a couple of writers at TAS who are enthusiastic users of Logitech
units and other digital audio devices, and seem to have a good grasp of
the various devices on the market and what they are and aren't capable
of. I basically trust what they write, and more sceptically read what
some of the others write.

All that said, I agree that it does get tiresome every issue to read
that something is the "greatest ever".
