That's funny.  I never had to use VHDL, much to my happiness. We use
SystemVerilog at work.  My day job is designing FPGAs for telecom
gear.
Lately I've been thinking of going really state of the art for a DAC
using an FPGA (Spartan-6 perhaps) and sounds like you're already in
there,
having all the fun.  If I do it, it will do some cubic spline calcs
and
regenerate quadrature samples, like Wadia do.  Now THAT would be da
bomb
for a pseudo-amateur built DAC.

Now I've read thru the Silcon Labs info, I really wish I had that stuff
in
my exisiting DAC.  I guess I could do a daughtercard if I really
wanted
to, but seems like a lot of work for probably not much audible gain.
