I recently made big changes to my room containing my hifi and have since
become unhappy with my hifi setup, for whatever the reason. I had been
toying with changing things for a while and this as really prompted me,
trouble is, I'm not sure what path I should be taking to get the best
for my money. Any advice or insight would be a help.

I will try and be brief, but will undoubtedly miss something out, so
please be gentle....

My current setup is a Squeezebox Duet, Cambirdge Azur 640A amp, and
Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers (on stands). I sit approx 3m/10ft away
from the speakers.

The main problem I have is that the setup is just a little too laid
back and lifeless, even more so when not on loud. There's no real
impact there. Also (obviously really) there is a bit of bass pwer and
definition lacking and instruments that are not at the forefront of the
mix are a bit lost.

I have a budget of about 500 (UK pounds) to upgrade and am stuck
between which option to pursue further, I have been researching for
weeks and my brain is now muddled!

Here are my options:

1. Sell the amp and speakers and buy active monitors
2. Replace the speakers with 'better' ones
3. Replace the speakers/stands with floorstanders
4. Replace the amp (although I am guessing this is not my weakest
link?)
5. Throw a Squeezebox Touch into the mix - will this make a significant
improvement?

Here are the important factors I need to consider:

a: I need either a volume control on the front or a remote control if I
go the active route
b: I need multiple inputs if I go the active route (2 will do though)
c: Whatever I have must look at least half decent - it is not just my
room..

So I love the idea of active speakers for the uncluttered option, but
the problem is finding ones that meet my above needs, and also do they
work well at the distance I will be listening from?

Floorstanders also appeal, but again, are they the right thing for my
situation?

The Touch would be great if wall mounted, but that looks like a
non-option to me too..

Anyway, sorry, lots of questions, any help at all would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
