I'd recommend you try the Touch by itself. You may well find the analog output quality of the Touch suits your needs. A DAC can always be added if you decide it is necessary.
Keep in mind the Touch can be hidden away as easily as the Duet. It takes just a bit more height than the Duet but you want some air circulation in either case, though neither one generates much heat. I very rarely control my music selections from the Touch screen. I have the Controller from the Duet and use that 95% of the time (I sold my Receiver.) However, you can also control the player with the web interface using a computer, laptop or handheld such as an iPod or Palm TX. There is even an active market for Duet Receivers since they aren't available by themselves from Logitech right now.
