dsdreamer - The irritating and shrill highs you are explaining may not
be most easily solved from the amp side of the equation. I know, when
you start substituting "eye of neut" for ground beef its hard to know
what the outcome will be. Not everyone is up for the challenge. For my
money, and sanity, if I "know" that what I'm hearing is a result of a
mismatch or imbalance of some sort, given that all components are of
known and reputable stock and trade, then its time for some "minor"
surgery to see if problem "A" is due to variable "C". When it comes to
speakers - unless you have $5K+ or closer to $10K, the crossovers are
probably "crap". I put crap in quotes because they are most likely not
crap according to "industry standards", but those standards are crap!
Economics dictate that you wont find $350 worth of caps and inductors
in a $1500, or even $3000 speaker.

Again, sorry for the rant. I just know the feeling so well. It's really
easy to spend $3K on piece of equipment and sell it on audiogon or ebay
for 2/3 to 1/2 what you payed for it! Wouldnt it be nicer to spend, say
$150 and transform said piece? It can be done. Keep the faith, dont be
afraid.
