Darren, your point is taken, although I would consider output impedance
(or, inversely expressed, the damping factor) to be the real determinant
of bass control at low volumes. 

I like to see an amplifier that nearly or actually doubles its rated
WPC into 4 Ohms vs. 8 Ohms, since this implies both low output
impedance of the amplifier and the power supply headroom to make use of
that control.
