In an earlier message you said you were using S/PDIF. That is a digital
output (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) which would require an external
DAC.

Sounds like the 100% fixed out overloads your preamp inputs. If you
want to used the fixed output where your volume is only controlled by
the preamp, I believe there are some internal jumper settings in the
Transporter where you can knock the down the output voltage so it's a
better match for your preamp.
