This is one of my big issues with a lot of linear supplies. The design I have posted on these forums uses a CLC filter which loads the transformer with an almost pure sine current load. It also feeds pure 120Hz to the regulator which makes it's job MUCH easier, it doesn't have to deal with all those high frequency harmonics.
