do you already have a linear ps or battery ps ? that may be enough for you as the internal dac is very good. the level 1 mods won't improve the sound from the internal dac. depends what you are listening to and what you are trying to achieve. if your ambition is to listen to hi rez then it is worth persuing. an external dac will be reusable if you move away from the Touch. getting a linear ps is essential in my view, I made one for £20, but eventually bought one for £200, both times there was a step up in performance. I guess a couple of caps and regulator could have been added to the £20 one. The level 1 mods really do make a big difference, all the previous tweaks were not really going to bring out more detail than the Touch was able to produce, but by changing the clocks the resolution is the best I have heard, it's not a 'oh that sounds good, that's an improvement' it's a 'wow, I didn't even know that level of detail was there'. there is also the problem with the future, usb/spdif convertors seem to be evolving at a much faster pace and a better sound may be more easily achievable eg jkenny hiface mk3+ (foobar2000 or Jriver) + Jplay, so consider that before spending any more money. -- SBGK ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SBGK's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52003 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322
