Forgive me if this has been discussed - I didn't find a similar thread. I've just replaced the speakers in my mid-fi system:
SBT w/TT3.0n analog outputs NAD C720BEE receiver B&W DM602 --> replaced with B&W Nautilus 804 Polk PSW505 sub --> disconnected interconnects & cables - decent but nothing too fancy Some tracks have absolutely amazed me - these are typically vocal with a couple of instruments. Others are disappointing - they sound unclear and thin. I was hoping the group might help me understand if one or both of the following explain this experience: Theory 1. Most commercial recordings are pretty poor, and perhaps its made worse by listening to 320kb/s MP3s (Mog). Under this theory, the "amazing" tracks show my system is good enough for my ears and I just need to find better recordings. Theory 2. The electronics may get by on certain simple music but can't handle complexity or perhaps less than pristine sources well. Under this theory, its time to educate myself and spring for high end electronics. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ wuffles's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32915 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97105 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
