The latest issue of The Absolute Sound (Issue 230, February 2013)
features several reviews of some interesting equipment however the
review of the Lamm ML2.2 Single-Ended Triode Amplier (monoblock at
$37,290 per pair) by editor Robert Harley is not one them. The headline
of the review asks the question: "Can an 18W Amplier at 3% Distortion be
World Class?" To which Mnyb, I and several other forum members would
answer with a resounding NO!!!

Harley's conclusion offers these tid bits of insight: "it's not for
everyone or every loudspeaker", "it won't deliver the bass extension,
control and dynamics of less expensive solid-state designs" "You must
also be prepared to make front-panel adjustments using a voltmeter, as
well as to replace tubes periodically."

Sounds like a winner to me :)

For those of who may wonder why I even have a subscription to one of the
magazines that I love to bash, the short answer is because the
subscription is dirt cheap, as are subscriptions to print edition of
most magazines these days as the print periodical business dies a very
slow death.

And the reviews of interesting equipment include the Wadia 121 Digital
Decoding Computer (aka DAC), which I haven't read, the DSPeaker
Anti-Mode 2.0 DualCore Digital Signal Processor, which I haven't read,
and the Classe Audio CP-800 Preamplifier, which I did read and while the
product is very interesting (it's an analog/digital preamplifier with a
high quality DAC and digital signal processor) the review is truly
terrible. The reviewer fails to take the equipment through all its paces
nor even give a description of the many features offered by this very
advanced piece of hardware but he does manage to throw in many of those
time honored audiophile phrases like "transparent window", "image
stability" and "refulgence" (I confess that I had to look that word up).
Check out the Classe web site
(http://www.classeaudio.com/delta/delta-cp800.htm) for more info and be
sure to download the owner's manual to get some idea of what I'm talking
about. More to follow once I read the other reviews.
