Well, we all need some point of reference, and that's mine when it comes
to what I consider as good gear... It's the only consistent point of
reference for me personally since there's no way to actually capture a
full performance; at best we can reproduce "accurately" the stereo mic
feed.

For me, the hardware itself is about good engineering. Not good art if
that's all that interests you. If I want to talk about interesting
music/art, I'd spend my time (and I do) out at the Steve Hoffman forums
and the Music section here.
