Andrew,
you think being attacked by an eagle in a hang-glider is scary, try the same
exercise in a paraglider! Over the years, I've seen some impressive eagle
tears in canopies but the best was during a comp in Tumut about ten years
ago when an eagle attacked from the rear and sliced a 2 metre tear across
the centre three cells of a close friends new glider. Suffice to say he was
pretty pissed about the damage and the glider lost a fair bit of performance
on the way down!
Speaking of shit though, thermalling with Pelicans around the rice fields of
Conargo is much more hazardous, the size of the bomb being proportional to
the size of the bird!
