Just where did Nigel say that such an antenna was /*required*/? For some gliders this /*may*/ be the only option (although I doubt it) but (as a FLARM owner) I have not been told I will have to change from my current antenna to a new, transparent one!

Given that he was talking about fixing known shortcomings, is your organisation, which made FLARM compulsory for contests in Queensland going to be happy with installations offering less than optimum performance? Are you going to persist with the old one when by putting in a new antenna the system performance will be improved?

I do not see any change to the affordability of FLARM. When an ADS-B add on becomes available (and enough of the GA fleet has ADS-B), I suspect I'll buy one, but that does not change the base cost of FLARM. As for the cost of FLARM to higher end GA aircraft (because they have to penetrate the pressure cabin to mount an external aerial), that is hardly the fault of FLARM is it?

I'm unable to make any sense of that last paragraph.

I would have thought that the cost we are concerned with is the total system cost.
