What are you going on about Mike? No one said the existing antenna was not
working and it is fine for most installations out of the box which is what
we have used for the last 14 months. In some cases Carbon fibre fuses can
block SOME of the signal, not all of it AND in some cases cross polarization
has an effect - BUT does not stop the signal, it reduces the range so
instead of seeing 3km's you might see 2km's and only effects some of the
circle and I also suspect not all of this is polarization it can also be the
fuse blocking as well but I say again, this is how it was designed and this
is what we have been using.

As a fringe benefit to our on going R&D into a COVERT style antennas which
was requested by maybe 30 pilots over the year we developed the on canopy
system and as a by product of the design as we discovered that it worked
well on cross polarization. So, if you want to have a clear, nearly
invisible antenna with improved performance then buy one, not all will want
to as they are happy with the little dick antenna supplied WHICH works fine
- are you receiving Mike?

No point in getting personal to our GQ rep about mandating flarm in GQ,
pilots voted at the State comps at DDSC in 2005, the NSW and Club class
comps in 2006 and 2007 to strongly recommend mandating them at comps, as
did the pilots at the N.Z Nats at Omarama for future Omarama comps , I might
add these are pilots recommendations and still need to be ratified at higher
levels but GQ did what they thought was best for the sport at the time with
the available system at the time and with the vote of pilots at the pilot
meeting at the time which might not be the views of non competing pilots
which is fine as it is not a mandate for gliders outside of comps and I
agree with that - always have.

Given that he was talking about fixing known shortcomings, is your
organisation, which made FLARM compulsory for contests in Queensland
going to be happy with installations offering less than optimum
performance? Are you going to persist with the old one when by
putting in a new antenna the system performance will be improved?

I'm unable to make any sense of that last paragraph.

I would have thought that the cost we are concerned with is the total
system cost.
