Hi all,

Mike,

Thanks, I needed good laugh this morning!

The statement quoted below is a press staement from a meeting of the CEO's
of large multinational corporations.

Hardly the sort of people I would imagine as under the influence of what you
so amusingly refer to as "left wing propagandist". Not to mention John
Howard, Malcolm Turnbull, or even President G.W. stupid of the US.

I get the feeling that some climate change sceptics won't accept reality
until it comes flooding under their doors, or snows in Queensland in summer.

"Climate change is "an urgent problem that requires global action,"
according to a joint statement issued this week by the leaders of more than
90 major international corporations and organizations, including Citigroup,
General Electric, Rolls Royce, Volvo and the World Council of Churches.
The statement calls on governments to set new targets for reducing
greenhouse gas emissions and enact bold policies to increase energy
efficiency. The signatories recommend the world set a price on emissions of
carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas, and cooperate on a new
international agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol"

To preempt comment on the credibility of that website a simple google search
for "business leader and climate change" shows many other major news
organisations with similar report's, this was simply the first Google search
result.

The written material on this shortage, (such as the recent DG press release
on the subject) I have seen has never even mentioned wind turbines, they
ascribe the shortage to the new Airbus and Boeing dreamliner consuming vast
ammounts of these materials.

The witch burning mentality you mention certainly exists, but it is from the
neo right wing nut job anti climate change brigade, such as Christopher
Monckton.
Thank goodness our country has rid its self of the vile lying and/or
incompetant and warmongering federal "Liberal" government, and is now
signing the Kyoto protocol.

Your point about the possible effect on gliding as a sport is quite correct,
but much as I love gliding in a choice between the future of our children
and my fun-well I know which I choose.

The quote below below sums this situation up nicely. Hardly a left winger
either.

"Of course, addressing climate change involves risks and costs. But much
greater is the risk of failing to act," said Alain Belda, chairman and CEO
of Alcoa"-Says it all really.

Dave L.

So what's your point , Mark?

Did you bother to read the paper which uses the IPCC's own predictions and
matches them against real world measurements?

What exactly is wrong about that paper, Mark? The claimed IPCC model outputs
are wrong? The Hadley Centre's radiosonde data are wrong? The Hadley Centre
aren't exactly renowned AGW skeptics and the radiosonde data is a matter of
public record. It would seem pointless to misrepresent the IPCC model
outputs.

So what is it?

BTW the "sponsorships" you reference (a few $10,000 here and there) don't
even begin to measure up against the billions being enthusiastically pushed
by governments on scientists who will toe the party line. The contrived
theories and data torturing that goes on has to be seen to be believed(or
not).

I searched for the "Center for Media and Democracy" who run sourcewatch:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_for_Media_and_Democracy Yeah, I know
it's wikipedia but it's probably at least as reliable as sourcewatch.

Appears to be a left wing propaganda/lobby group. But you could probably
guess that from the name. You might like to look in to the backers of the
realclimate website also. Check out Fenton Communications.

If anybody is wondering what this has to do with soaring, just remember that
this is a very fossil fuel intensive activity when you look in to it. Lots
of fuel involved in simply getting to where it takes place let alone the
launching and retrieving. The current carbon fiber shortage also owes a fair
bit to it being used in wind turbine blades and the carbon and resins are
all derived from fossil fuels.

Towing glider trailers behind bubble cars isn't going to work all that well
either and I wonder how long before "frivolous" activities like any form of
private aviation are heavily circumscribed or banned, all in the name of CO2
emissions reductions. Some in the UK are calling for the rationing of air
travel - and they are the Conservatives! By then we'll all have lots else
to worry about as our economies collapse.

All this climate change hysteria is about as sensible as burning witches.
Our civilisation used to have enough of a grip on reality and belief in
reason to be able to land men on the moon and send our eyes to the outer
reaches of our solar system. I'm glad I lived through that, it seems
unlikely to be repeated.

Mike
