Apologies for my last which appeared to go into tabular form when sent, so
herewith another attempt:

In a search of the GFA website it lists under the heading of the "Board",
without any narrative description or photo, a list of the 8 members from the
States as follows: Aaron Stroop NSWGA member David Conway SAGA member Dave
Donald GQ 2nd member Geoff Wood SAGA 2nd member John Rappell NSWGA 2nd member
Owen Jones WAGA member Phil McCann VSA member, Robert Hart GQ member, ..... so
that appears to be straight forward and that is the "Board".

However ..... then there is another separate heading which is separated from
the above by 2 subheadings, being "Clubs and Societies" and "Development", so I
guess it is alphabetical, and the heading there is "Executive Board" which gets
2 paras of narrative as below, a photo of a group (that look very pleased with
themselves), and lists the members as:

Executive - Executive Board

The GFA Executive is responsible for managing the day to day running of the GFA
through the Secretariat and its Officers under the direction of broad Board
policies and direction. It meets as required, but usually twice as an Executive
and twice in conjunction with the Board plus the annual Board (ABM) and General
meeting in September. Important matters between meetings are transacted by
email and phone. At combined Board meetings Executive members have one vote.
Regional Board members have two votes.

Heads of departments (4) are elected by their peer group to the Executive and
are ratified at ABM and the President, Vice President and Treasurer are elected
from the members. All members of the Executive have a maximum 5 year term. The
Immediate Past President may be invited to the Executive in a changeover year.

Daryl Connell GFA President, Edwin Grech-Cumbo GFA Chairman Airworthiness
department, (CTC) Graeme Wishart GFA Vice President, Ian Grant GFA Treasurer,
Maurice Little GFA Chairman Development department, Peter Gray GFA Chairman
Operations department. Rob Moore GFA Chairman Sport department.

So based on the above narrative quote, the "Board" of 8 (as opposed to the
"Executive Board" of 7 more), provides "broad policies and direction" and the
"Executive Board" then does all of the real decision making.

Is that correct and are both groups really as separate as the website makes
them appear to be?

The final sentence of the above quoted para also talks about the voting rights
at "combined board meetings". Does that mean that there are also "separate"
board meetings?

In the 2nd quoted para it also mentions a matter dear to my heart and that is
that the President, Vice President and Treasurer are elected from the members.
I don't recall being involved in that, so I guess that narrative is not
referring to election "by the members".

I'm sure many of those mentioned above are dedicated and capable people, but
the arrangements appears to me to be convoluted and based on the above and
previous posts, is undemocratic (in that all GFA members don't have a direct
vote for the Board members [or the Executive Board Members]) and the
combination of the separate Board and Executive Board + a total of 15 on the 2
"Boards" + the involvement of Management members on the Board (which makes it
not a truely independant "Board") + a 5 repeat five year term for the
"Executive" makes me ask .... Just where does the power really lie in all of
the above? Is it really with the members & their elected representatives?

Can anyone help with the above?

Regards Geoff
