Two considerations are (i) glider radios usually pick up more transmissions than average GA plane because of different squelch settings (no engine to break SQ). Also (ii) I notice parachute planes (Rainbow beach, Byron etc) at FL 12 to 14 tend to xmit very long distances (4 min call and chutes away call) - like as far as Chinchilla
Most pilots these days correctly finish their xmit with their site which I believe helps be it on extra word. I did talk to a CASA person (best not name him) and he did say the most important calls were (i) entering and active runway (ii) inbound call to airfield and (iii) turning downwind call. He did consider "truning base" and "turning final for XXX" were less significant if you are the only a/c at your 126.7 airport and there are other airports with high 126.7 traffic. He agreed some pilots just like to hear their own voice making the latter 2 calls when they are the only aircraft in the airports circuit. I think we have all heard such calls Not sure about a solution-maybe drop zones not be on a separate CTAF freq.
