Not really. FPV or First Person View is the big thing in some RC
circles. Your aircraft is fitted with an HD video camera, autopilot,
gyro and a device to generate an onscreen display of the necessary
flight info. There's a transmitter or down-link to send the info to
the pilot who either looks at a screen or wears something like the
Fatshark glasses with the stuff built in. So you fly or merely steer
the aeroplane and use the first person vision from the cockpit while
the OSD or HUD gives you the instrument readings.

See:

And a host of videos on YouTube. Just search for FPV.

What's cool about these systems is that they give the teenager on the
Clapham omnibus all the UAV look and kill abilities of someone in
Langley Virginia but at a fraction of the cost.

There's a video on YouTube of someone claiming a world record of 40
kms with this gear and another of someone flying between the rooftop
radio towers of some highrise in Austria. Quite chilling really… but
no more than a fully armed UAV piloted by some government paid
teenager in camos.
