Not really. FPV or First Person View is the big thing in some RC
circles.
What's cool about these systems is that they give the teenager on the
Clapham omnibus all the UAV look and kill abilities of someone in
Langley Virginia but at a fraction of the cost.
There's a video on YouTube of someone claiming a world record of 40
kms with this gear and another of someone flying between the rooftop
radio towers of some highrise in Austria. Quite chilling really
but
no more than a fully armed UAV piloted by some government paid
teenager in camos.
D
Adrian and I were talking about this yesterday.
He figures when the governenment finds out about
this, radio controlled models will be banned.
That or you'll need an ASIC card to fly one. Lots
of luck with that. I talked to the editor of
Radio Control Model News recently as his magazine
let me make contact with someone I hadn't seen or
heard much of in 30 years. He reckoned there were
11,000 MAAA members in Australia and around
another 40,000 model aircraft enthusiasts who
weren't. Unlike gliding, the radio control model
aircraft activity is in good shape.
"a fully armed UAV piloted by some government paid

How is this different from "a fully armed fighter
bomber piloted by some government paid
teenager (or any ager) in a flight suit" ?
