Some day we'll all discover that the same conservation of energy required to make the long marginal glide is necessary in other walks of life. We pay the maintenance costs of our cars and aircraft. How much is it worth to maintain the planet we live on, so we and others can enjoy life?

You can live the low energy lifestyle now in the poorer parts of Africa but you choose not to. There isn't much gliding going on amongst the general population there. The people degrade their environment severely in their desperation to get enough to eat because they don't have enough technology or energy. I see the greenies are now trying to stop the building of hydroelectric dams in Ethiopia, the only form of renewable energy that works(report in The Weekend Australian).

No need to tell this group, but there seems to be more to life than finances.

Substitute "economics" and think carefully about how biological systems work. Its *all* about the energy/materials economy of their environment. By using our brains we have managed to generate surpluses which enable us to be "not all about finances" which lets us do things like gliding and private flying and everything else that humans do that isn't about getting enough to eat.

And enough anti-renewable energy ranting. There are many subsidies and protections for energy systems more nasty than solar, wind, geothermal, etc that nobody talks about. Look up "price-anderson" for a start. It's not Australian, but nor is Oshkosh.

Yeah I looked up Price - Anderson. So what? Did you actually read about the details?

This is interesting when you talk about "nasties"

You remind me of the attitudes being highlighted in my second favorite Glenn Frey song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT3X1Z5z9P0 There used to be a better version by the man himself but it seems to have disappeared. Listen carefully to the words.
