Hello Tom, hello Mike

An empty weight reduction is no longer a dream but reality.

The empty weight of the ASG 29 is already a lot lower than any
of its competitors but on top of that Schleicher offers a SL (Super
Light) version.
Using a more expensive (but substantionally lighter) composite
lay-up allows the empty weight to be reduced by another 10 kg.

I know that is nowhere near the 30 kg you are asking for but a big
step in that direction.

Kind regards to all!

Not a problem on the ASG29 but the JS1 is heavy. This is partly due to the 12% wing but also likely to conservative design. I've been told it took 15 G on the rig, then the rig broke and they put the undamaged wings back on the prototype and flew it. You don't need a 15 G glider. CS22 is 5.33 G limit load 8 G ultimate. I think there's some room for removing some material out of the wing of the JS1 and this will also make it easier to rig. I wouldn't want to handle 85 to 90 KG wing panels routinely.
