Having built a couple of parts and control surfaces for some Zenith aircraft, I
have to say MAN the thickness of ALI used is not reassuring to be making a
workhorse out of the airframe.

Just my 2 cents but good luck !

Sounds great but still Lycoming powered.

Shortly, we will have a Zenith Aircraft CH640 in the country (homebuilt but
completed). It will get glider towing modifications (according to Zenith
Aircarft plans) here by a LAME, then it will get an experimental certificate
under SAAA, undergo a glider towing test program, and it will be maintained by
a LAME.

I know this has been a long running issue and I am a latecomer.
I have negotiated to buy a new Pawnee "Kit" and build it under SAAA rules with
whichever engine is desired. CASA has, as I understand, indicated they will not
issue flying permits for further old certified Pawnees with V8 conversions
until an STC is compiled and approved/issued. The kit aircraft does not have
these restrictions. Both CASA and SAAA have agreed this is the case. The SAAA
has given its support to the project.
These will be brand new aircraft. Other mods can be made such as sheeted wings
and spoilers can be fitted. These aircraft have the latest U/C and the kit
builder also holds FAA Certification - so I can also organise a brand new
certified Pawnee if you want as either a 235hp or 260hp.
CASA has also intimated that in the very near future "homebuilt " aircraft can
be built commercially ie "chequebook" built. Kits genuinely homebuilt can be
maintained by the builder but commercially built will require commercial
maintenance.
This (sourcing the kits - if you want someone to build it you will have to pay
someone suitably qualified) is not a profit making venture. I want a V8 Pawnee
for Gliding Now Inc and have long believed that anything which reduces the cost
of gliding will help the sport grow). If you would like further information
send me an email or call 0408016164<tel:0408016164>. Getting a few kits in a
container will reduce transport costs considerably.
