I remember some discussions about this topic, but I can't find the mails
right now, sorry. 

As far as I remember, the authors of the books will decide, what they
want to do with the money. The second quote you've mentioned is just for
the reason, that Jean has something to write down, what the money will
be used for. (That's my personal guessing!) 

I'm sure, Jean will say the same, when she's online later (or maybe
tomorrow). The money we will get through this books (I don't have an
imagination, how much this will be) isn't automatically used for paying
for our webspace (isn't Enthought paying for it?), it's used, for what
the whole group of authors decide.
