The OOoAuthors guides are produced in individual volumes to keep
the size and cost down. When the other volumes (Calc, Draw,
Impress, Base) are finished, I intend to publish printed versions
of them too -- unless this group objects strenuously to that
proposal.
I like your intention and think it should be done in other languages too
(e.g. german ;-)
...needed by the target audience of the printed book,
which is beginners.
can see the same here
It would be useful, perhaps, to understand what we will do with the
final proceeds and then determine how much of a profit to have.
I look at this the other way around. What's a reasonable markup?
How much money are we likely to raise? What can we do with that
amount of money?
... once there is some to talk about, right?
I think $4/book is a reasonable markup
maybe it is helpful to say 'something' to give a lead for similar
projects, which might be already running... and no ones knows about here.
As for what to do with the money, let's all talk about it on the
list. I definitely want to talk about it. It's OOoAuthors' money,
not mine! I have some ideas, but none of them are fixed, and I
want to hear from some other people before I throw out my own ideas.
for quite new members of the community (like me ;-) it could be useful
to read a few ideas here, to learn what's possible at all...
One final note. Jean and Ian, I have a lot of respect for both of you
for many reasons. I have developed this respect over the years. Thank
you for the civil discourse!
my thanks too, putting much effort in this project and matching with
emotions and differing points of view is difficult but handled in a
constructive manner here.
Thank you, Andrew, for contributing.
@ sigrid
and thanks sigrid for your crystal ball clear statements
<snip> It's just possible, to publish these books without notifying anyone, the only
thing, they have to do, is to include the license-text and name the
authors.... <snip> You can go and publish one of these chapters
(or the whole book) yourself and you can try to make money with them. No
one can stop you doing this.
...and I'm pretty sure it is done while we are talking. in my eyes the
whole 'open source thing' is a community.
I hope to hear from some other people on this topic.
me too!
greetings from vienna + keep :-)
