Sorry I haven't responded sooner, but I've been out all afternoon and just got back.

I am extremely disappointed with the way that this has been handled.

To the best of my knowledge this was not discussed with the group in
advance. Are we a community or not? To me something like this should
have been discussed and agreed upon.

As Sigrid pointed out, this was discussed with other members of the group, but it was quite some time ago. Everything else Sigrid said is true, to the best of my knowledge, so I won't repeat it all here.

Money raised from sales of OOoAuthors books will be spent as decided by the contributors to those books. At some point (when we actually have some money in the account), we'll need to work out just how to handle these decisions, but that's a topic for another thread, and probably another day.

A quote from the site:
"Profits from the sale of this book support expenses of OOoAuthors
(http://oooauthors.org/)."

To me these quotes are contradictory, and the issue should have been
discussed and decided upon in advance.

The second quote was intended as a shorthand variation of what I posted on the list. On re-reading, I can see that it may sound contradictory and can easily be misinterpreted, so I'll change it.

While I acknowledge the hard work that Jean has put into these documents
they are the result of the collective hard work of all the community and
to me as such a unilateral decision by Jean was inappropriate.

I should have raised the discussion again more recently, but I have been so distracted by other concerns (outside OOo) that I never thought about bringing it up again. I've been too focused on the product to pay attention to the process. Sorry. I certainly had no intention of making a unilateral decision.

Ian, may I ask whether you object to the publication of the books, or to the fact that they are being sold at a profit instead of at cost, or is your objection only to the way I handled the publication?

Regards, Jean
