There have been several discussions earlier. I just have searched the mailing-list archives for some threads: http://user-faq.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=authors&msgId=1602291 As you can read there, we've talked very early (last year!) about selling the guides. There are also some more threads about publishing the guides - I think you'll find them. > > It has also been suggested that the rationale for changing the mailing > list server is a technical one. It's very hard for me to work via a mailinglist, which is so slow, that a message, that I'll send to it, will need 4 days until it appears on-list. (This happened to me during the last two months!) And I can tell you, that I'm not only working on the authors-list, I'm also an active member of the germanophone project. :) > > It is my impression that the OOoAuthor leads have been vociferous in > their attacks about the lack of interaction of the OOo web site yet I > have not seen them contribute to the developemnt if the OOo wiki. > > To me the issue is about the OOoAuthor leads wanting to be independent > of the rest of the OOo community. It is your personal right, to have your own opinion. To find out what all our active members want, is why Janet has set up a Plone poll. Every author can vote, if he/she wants the list to move or to stay at the place, where it's now. When you say, that the OOoAuthors-leads want to be independent of the OOoCommunity, this isn't true and you start insinuating things. Most of the authors work in their native-lang projects and are doing there a lot of work for OOo. There are only one or two persons, who have "personal problems" with some of the OOo-leads. But it's infamous, to say, that this is the reason for the move. The huge majority of authors of OOoAuthors is working in good athmosphere in their local projects. > > My recommendation is that OOoAuthors people work to improve the > official OOo wiki, including the uploading of files, so that the > development of OOo documentation is done on an OOo server. Hm, can you provide a link to the OOoWiki? I saw a note only on the dev-list, and I thought it's only useful for development issues, but not for collaborative work on user guides. But I'll check it out. Sigrid
