Hi Daniel,

Some People will say "We have every know it! OOoAuthors.org wants to split from OpenOffice.org! The blackamoor has be duty done, the blackamoor can go. They have betrayed us!"

Someone might. But consider that the OOo council has already talked about telling OOoAuthors to move. They thought of it. It seems wrong to say to someone "you can't use our list anymore" and when they move then say "see, they betrayed us!".
No, it was not discussed to tell you to move, just because we want you to move away from the OOo lists. *sigh*

The problem is that OOoAuthors seems to become a more and more closed community, that likes to move away from OOo. There is still the licensing issue. As it is nowhere visible at the OOoAuthors site, that documents could be used t the OOo project under PDL, new authors do not have to agree. So .. it is irrelevant, what has been discussed at the mailing lists, as long as this is not transparent for new authors. You might even remember, that I have asked to write down your concerns about the PDL and ask the Council to revise the PDL. This has not been done, but would have been helpfull to make the PDL easier to handle.

Second reason was the announcement of selling OOoAuthors documentations and using it for OOoAuthors. If you read the Council lists, it was discussed to ask OOoAuthors to give some of the profits to OOo (in form of Team OOo e.V.). To me, this is a fair question, as OOoAuthors team is using ressources of OOo (that are payed by Sun to support the OOo project). In fact other teams would be noted, that we would introduce some rules, how OOo ressources might be used for generating money. So .. OOoAuthors team is not the only one that would be affected.

Anyway .. to me, the situation seems very unfortunate. OOoAuthers has something to provide, where OOo could learn from. Using a more easy environment for document handling seems to be the right way to me. The sad thing is, that this has been accompanied with some decisions, that move OOoAuthors more and more away from OOo.

André
