Found out the reason - (seems Xv extension totally confuses avicap, so 
running xawtv -noxv helps), and now I got 2 problems:

1. it doesn't save the configuration at all - I have to configure everything 
every time..

2. When I press "configure" to select the codec - the program exits - log 
below (thats after I installed the latest binaries from 
avifile.sourceforge.net to /usr/lib/win32).. it seems it looks for 
btvvc32.dll - where to get this one?
