And it's amazing what you can do without suffering from framedrops, I also run 
avicap with high priority and surf with galeon and write emails with kmail 
... and no framedrops.
I can even view movies with low bitrate without getting framedrops in 
recording ;-)

I have to nice down the compiler, but nice -17 make makes sure no framedrops 
come my way ;-)

When I told this friends who tried to use win32 for the same thing, they're 
still thinking I'm joking ;-)

How do you de-interlace these files?

What are your (or others) recommended de-interlace settings for 
mplayer/mencoder and transcode?
