then again there's Roger comment to that Tinic post. I have experienced those delays on LOW->BEST switch, too; meaning, at least some of mipmapping-related info is getting lost in LOW mode, or else why would they need extra time...
too bad the player is not opensourced, and we cant take a look at what is going on there in some particular case.
