Collada has only one issue - the time it takes to parse after expanding the
ZIP'd DAE file. The file format spec itself has no issues aside from the fact
that it takes time to parse the XML format - but an Alchemy parser or an
optimized library would alleviate that issue.

It is the most fully functional format out there aside from FBX so I'm not sure
why everyone jumps on it so much.

If it's an issue of it being a PITA to implement, that's a personal problem but
not one with the format itself. :)

I'm just speaking from experience, having used Collada for years in conjunction
with FBX for feature film work and even runtime work in PV3D (though I modified
the original ASCollada library significantly).
