Okay, I deciphered it... by using a format function you can populate a 
naughty widget with data from the widget it self. Don't have to use any 
external things. But NOT like here:

You are abusing vicious.widgets.bat... if you wish to register a custom 
function with vicious then provide it as a second argument to 
vicious.register() - avoid vicious bat widget altogether, format 
function are for another thing completely.

Why do use use acpi tool to grab battery data anyway? The widget does 
not find data for your BAT0? In worst case scenarion there are multiple 
battery widgets available in the contrib branch (acpitool, Apple PMU, 
ACPI...) for people with rare hardware.
