When my daughter, Renee, was on the island of Graciosa in 1999, her husband
bought a car for $50, as it was less expensive than using a taxi.
One day Renee took the car (probably her 3 kids too), and drove around the
perimeter of the island. When she left for her drive, Joe's relatives asked
Joe if he wasn't afriad that Renee might find another man and not come back.
He told them that they had a better relationship than that.

Even in 1989, when I drove from Porto to Tras-os-Montes, the men could
not believe a MAN had not driven for me. I finally got the reason they were
questioning me and whipped out my driver's license and said, "That's me, I know
how to drive, I drove myself!!!" They still looked at me in disbelief.
