I think that is why I just don't like the collaborative environment, whether it's Ancestry, The Next Generation, Geni, WeRelate, and soon, the new FamilySearch. I don't really like WorldConnect on Rootsweb either because most aren't sourced to my liking and anyone surfing in can download your Gedcom and add it to their tree. You'd never know.
Someday (as in years) I'll probably do my own web site. Rootsweb has free space available via their freepages section. Here's an example: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~scheetz/ If you and another person are working together, you can't both add onto the web site and do it collaboratively, but you won't get people automatically adding you to their tree either. You also can just download the Gedcom and hook it to your tree either. Another guy has started his own web hosting site (don't trust me on all the web hosting/domain/etc terminology, as I may be mixing the words up). http://www.familyhistoryhosting.com/ He's John Cardinal who is a beta tester with "The Master Genealogy" and has developed add-on programs for it. Now he's branching out into the web hosting business (for a fee). He's pretty receptive to ideas too. I've met him twice and asked him about one of his add-on programs. I said I needed to correct all my Jose names to José. But I had some as Francisco Jose and wanted them to be Francisco José. The add on program would only correct the first name it saw and not the second name, even though I was asking for a replacement of all Josés. Guess what? The next year it would correct any and all occurrences of José in that particular field.
