Dolores, For airlines check SATA:
http://www.azores-express.com/en/content/home-page Be aware of their luggage sizes/weights or you will have to pay extra. Having traveled extensively in Europe, we now only travel with one 21" carryon and 1 small backpack or 1 small Land's End canvas bag. We always manage to find a laundromat. Check also inter-island luggage regulations. SATA goes from/to Boston, Oakland and Toronto, Canada to Sao Miguel and Terceira but you need to check the time of year as they stop going from Oakland sometime in the Fall. They also provide inter-island flights. We went to Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel and Angra, do Heroismo, Terceira; we also took SATA to Lisbon as I have family there. I think SATA used to offer hotel packages, but I don't see that on their site? In Terceira we stayed at the Angra Garden Hotel, Praca Velha, Angra do Heroismo. A little more expensive than some but the location was suited for us seniors and we have a very nice room with a great view of the gardens off the back ot it. It is an ideal location as it is right in town so easy to walk to Archives, food, shopping. Be prepared to go up hills...sidewalks are stones so wear low, very comfortable shoes. We did not rent a car, my husband is no longer inclined to drive in foreign countries anymore, and I believe the hotel can make arrangements for you to have someone take you around the island for a day. We took a cab to/from the airport. This is the same for Sao Miguel and there we stayed at the Hotel Avenida, Rua Dr. Jose Bruno Tavares Carreiro, Ponta Delgada. Again, we picked this hotel for its location and there is a laundromat practically across the street in a shopping mall. We wore jeans and dressy pants, if needed (I only took 1 pair of black slacks. I did not take or need any dresses. Most of us who go don't speak Portuguese, no problem. Others can give you names of guides they have used for tours of the islands. Any other questions, just ask. Someone on this list should be able to answer it. Lucky you....I would love to go back and hope to in a couple of years. "E" -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
