Delores,

Just a point of information please. I sense that you may be new to genealogy.
If not, then forgive this question (in fact, you can simply ignore it): Are you
aware that you can do most if the research without travelling to the islands ?
Not that I'm trying to dissuade you from having a fabulous trip, but it would
seem infinitely better to get as much done here (using the Family History
Centers' microfilms and online websites) and then you could spend more time
actually sightseeing the places where your family lived, worked and enjoyed
life when you went to the islands instead of spending the few precious
hours/days in the archives.

In any event, I hope you and your family have a wonderful trip.

Gayle

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Azores Travel

My family and I want to learn more about our heritage and are planning
to travel to the Azores. We don't know where to begin. Someone said
that this list would be a good place to learn about going to the
Azores. So we have lots of questions. We hope that it is okay to ask!
I am the genealogy person in our family and hope to see some of the
records that are there on Terceira.

When is a good time to go? (we are thinking Fall)

What is the best way to travel if you want to go to Terceira and one
other island?

What hotels are reasonable and have nice accomodations?

What clothes should we take? Casual, more dressy?

We don't speak Portuguese, can we travel there without problem?

Should we rent a car or is there reliable public transportation?

Are there guides available and what do they charge, how do we contact
them?

This is a lot, but hope that it is okay!

Delores
