Repost for Iris Cab: The Hawaiian Monarchy began with King Kamehameha I who died in 1819. The overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy was in 1893 and I believe Hawaii became a Territory in 1898. The majority of Portuguese who went to the Sandwhich Islands were from Sao Miguel and Madeira. Most of the Portuguese in Northern California seem to be from Terceia
