Well, I'm a Mac user, myself, but I think I can still help you.... This is how
it is on a Mac and I'm assuming it is the same way on a PC.

So, on your Toshiba laptop, in FTM, go to the File menu and choose Backup to
backup the family file you want to share. Depending on your setup at home,
choose to save the file in a location you can easily find...... perhaps the
Desktop or directly to a plugged in Flash Drive (aka Thumb Drive.) If your
computers are on the same wireless network at home, you can even transfer the
file that way. There are other ways, too, like connecting both computers via a
cable such as Ethernet or USB. BUT, the Flash Drive method is probably the
easiest.

Now that you have your file on the Flash Drive, you need to transfer it to your
second computer, the Mini. I'm not sure about how the FTM directories are set
up on a PC. You could just copy the backed up file to the Desktop of the Mini
or you could copy it directly to a Backups directory within the FTM directory.

Open up FTM on the Mini. Go to the File Menu and choose Restore. Locate where
you put that backed up file from the Toshiba and select that. The File should
restore just fine and there should now be a family file in your FTM directory.

A word of caution on this....... If you have linked any media to your FTM file
(as opposed to actually adding it into your FTM file which makes the file much
bigger) those links to photos, census images, etc. MAY not show up on your
Mini. UNLESS you also copy the media and maintain an exact copy on both
computers. I'm not sure about that last one so perhaps someone who does this
with your program can clarify that.

Also, if you make changes to the file on your Mini, you can just reverse the
above procedure to copy those changes back to the Toshiba. Be sure not to make
any changes to the Toshiba file until you have copied the changed file back to
the Toshiba or you'll have a mess on your hands.

All of this may sound pretty confusing. But, if you do it all correctly and be
consistent in your work flow, it will work fine.

I used to do this all the time and even used Dropbox to sync my family history
files and all my media. That method works great, too, but is not for folks who
aren't totally sure of how it works. Now, I'm working only on one computer so
it makes life much easier.

Hopefully this helped you a little. If you need more help, please email me
directly and I will share my phone number so we can talk about it on the phone
if that will help.

Good luck and happy hunting!
Kathy
