I am a PC user and like Legacy Family Tree, http://legacyfamilytree.com/, mostly because of the source citation templates. They make it easy to add complete details for sources in a consistent way. In addition, I am learning to use TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding, http://www.tngsitebuilding.com/) to create a website to share my information with family members. Data is exported from Legacy in Gedcom format, then imported into the TNG site to update the data.
I also use multiple computers (desktop and laptops) so we keep our data files on a network drive so that the data is accessible from any one of the computers when we are home. If we need to travel, we just copy the data files needed to the laptop and open the file on the laptop instead of the network drive. In the case of any media files, it does mean maintaining multiple sets of the files, but that also means that you have backups. If we make updates to the data on the laptop, the updated file can be backed up and restored to the network drive or in the case of the Legacy software, I can just copy the pertinent files onto the network drive to update the data. In addition, data on the network is backed up periodically to another drive and I maintain a second external drive for additional backups. I keep it with me whenever we leave the house (it's small and fits easily in my purse). Diane George -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
