I think Rosa may have been a girlfriend or close friend....it sounds like
they may have been somewhat affluent because "the Father" took his town's
Regent(Mayor) with him to the city to appeal his case.  And the way he
writes seems to indicate a father/son relationship...I would check it
further, perhaps other correspondence may give you more clues.
