Hello David.Good to hear from you.Melchior and Belchior can sometimes be a
problem, possibly to some priests and ultimtely to us.As for Clara's birth it
is actually January 17th. The 23rd is her baptismal date and it is definetly
her married to Tomas Rebelo (Thomas Rebello) on 7 June 1648.I have for her full
name as Clara de Vasconcelos (Vasconcells) Baldaia and yes you could be right
that it might have been her parents way of honoring her grandmother (also
called Clara de Vasconcellos), but only they or the registering priest would
know for sure. I can't put my fingers on it right now as to the instances
Baldaia was used . She mostly went as Clara de Vasconcelos (Vasconcellos).I
haven't been very faithfull at sourcing my information, however I believe that
I have done extensive due deligence in the compilation of my data base wich is
I believe quite large at around 137,000 individuals and my sources have been:
parish records to start with, genealogies of other people related to me
somehow, genealogies on-line, Saudades da Terra, Rodrigo Rodrigues, Carlos
Machado, Felgueiras Gayo and many others.Let me know to what extent I can help.
As I said this line definetely goes to the late 1200's with possible but not
yet concretised connections to the early 1100's and possibly before.Whoa....,
that is enough for now.We must be cousins somehow, we just have to figure it
out. HermanoDate: Thu, 9 May 2013 19:55:04 -0700

Thanks Hermano - I'll take you up on your kind offer off line. In the
meantime, I've discovered another point of confusion. I have a Clara born to
Melchoir Baldaia and Maria Franca on 23 Jan 1628 and then twenty years later,
this same Clara with the name "Clara Vasconcellos" actually written out on the
record marries Thomas Rebello on 7 Jun 1648. I assume she somehow wants to
identify with or honor her grandmother.David

I've been trying to get my Rego Balaya lines back to the original Rego Baldayas
of the 1500s with no success. My earliest record is a marriage of Belchoir
Baldaya to Maria Franca from 1623 in the Lagoa (Rosario) section of the online
"Direcao Regional da Cultura" site we're all familiar with. My only remaining
option is maybe I'm reading the record incorrectly. Would someone be so kind
as to take a look at the record and tell me what they see? I can read the
other names but I'm unsure of the relationships - parents, godparents? The
record is under Casamentos, 1594 - 1683, it's record number 0052, and it's on
the lower half of the the page. Many thanks in advance,David Perry
