The big difference is that FTDNA is where you test. And they have some great tools. But once you have the raw data from FTDNA we have an even better tool in Gedmatch to analyze the data.

Gedmatch is nothing if you don't have the test results from FTDNA. And since a relatively small number of people who tested at FTDNA have also uploaded to Gedmatch, they still are the best place to do testing because the tools they do offer and the database of others who tested there still outnumbers the matches one would get if they tested at 23andMe or Ancestry.com. Then you add the fact Ancestry is dumping their mtDNA and Y-DNA services and we're left we just one logical choice - FTDNA.

Hi Doug,

You have really put some hours into analyzing the data I personally am a big fan of Gedmatch  I think it is clear that Family Finder has some shortcomings and you have effectively illustrated that Gedmatch is a very useful tool as well.  I think in some ways Gedmatch is superior to Family Finder.
