I was very fortunate to find someone who was able to locate a document that said that Joseph Roberts was born in Terceira, Angra, Conceicao.
I found the following baptism with the correct date of birth 8 Jun 1850 and I am hoping it is him. http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-CONCEICAO-B-1846-1855/TER-AH-CONCEICAO-B-1846-1855_item1/P98.html He is in the bottom left as Jose, filho legitimo de Bartholomeu Moarez? I have heard Moraes but not Moarez then next is profession? Jose was a cabinet maker but I don't think this says Carpinteiro, Lanterneiro? he was baptized na Paroquia Matriz de Santa Cruz da Ilha Graciosa, mae Francisca ____________? batizada na Paroquia de Sao Pedro em Angra neto de Manoel Jose da __________? e Antonia Roza (paternal grandparents) neto de Jose Caetano____________? e Ritta Cand__________?
