Dave, Another wild guess may be in the 1933 Los Angeles County marriage record of Joseph Thomas Lopes, the son of Herculeano and Bell Lopes.
The witness is " Billie Sexton" with a L A address. Could be Velma with a stage name. I've tried the city directories to find that person and address without sucess.
