Elaine: Welcome to the Club ! I dropped FTM "Ancestry" when Ancestry started making complicated changes to it. One example: recording of sources ! I bought and have the full Roots Magic version 7 and Legacy 8.0 version's and found them both far more complex and difficult to load. I found these are both good and worth while products and have helpful staffing but having FTM I find they are more complex than I need. So to make a long story short after a lot of blood. sweat, and tears, and my Geek Squad help, I have reverted back to my FTM version 2006. It still works fine, full fills my every need, is simple, self intuitive, so I intend to keep it as long as it works. My distress was created when my 32 bit computer died and I had to buy a new one. At that point in time all new computers were 64 bit. My FTM would not run on 64 bit so I had to upgrade FTM to 64. When Ancestry purchased FTM they developed a conversion program. When my computer died they had developed their own new version FTM and no longer supported the original FTM they purchased or the conversion program. Fortunately, my local Geek Squad were able to find a way they had made the conversion in the past and were able to upgrade my copy of FTM to 64 bit. I have been using it since about 1990 . In 2004 I used it to publish a158 page Genealogical History of my Sellars Family Titled "NEWFOUNDLAND SELLARS Facts and/or Hearsay" using Family Tree Maker V10. This version of FTM not only developed the individual reports and charts it created an all name index and identified every page the individual was noted on, it collated the reports and numbered the pages consecutively starting with the table of contents through the dedication, preface, acknowledgements, introduction and all the various reports and charts I elected to use. What more do I need ? Nothing. It is a GREAT PROGRAM ! (?App.?) Copies have been distributed to many public entities, including public libraries, historical societies, and town halls, which have been helpful to me in collection of data. It is now out of print. I would hope that some entity would take an interest in that original Broderbund program and maintaining the original self intuitive program concepts windows, etc., make and maintain the program to do things like making FTM run on a 64 bit program rather than earlier 32 bit or 16 bit program or earlier. I have heard that some company may have purchased from Ancestry the rights to FTM ? Which FTM ? If any one on the list knows who the company is, or what the current status is I would hope they could share that information with those of us who are caught in this difficult position. Good luck in your search. Ralph E. Sellars, Jr. E-Mail resj...@yahoo.com

I have FTM 16. Has anyone changed to a different program or the new company who is supposed to take over FTM users? Any other program to make an easy switch? I am looking for an easy switch and how to do it and what I will and/or will not lose. Remember, I am not a computer genius...or anywhere near it.
