Caroline, I found a Manuel E Gomes in Findagrave.com. Born 1875, died 1942. Its was listed as located at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Perhaps the church or cemetery has a record? I live about 25 miles from Modesto but if I remember correctly, the cemetery and the church are over off of Scenic drive.
