I think you are confused. It sounds like you are saying that after
Uthman was killed he gave an illegal order to kill his own
murderers?!?

Otherwise, I would point out that Uthman was murdered while he was at
home reading the Quran. It wasn't like he was out on the battlefield.
In no way is this the kind of killing that would normally be
considered "self-defense".
