The Baha'i Studies Listserv Back before I was married, I went through a phase where it seemed like every woman I dated had recently been involved with another woman, yet still had ample attraction for men. Often they would compliment me on being quiet and gentle. Some later got married to men. At least one quickly returned to the company of women. In either case, it left me with the personal impression that for at least some people the zones are considerably more a matter of shades of gray than black or white. I learned later about the Kinsey sexuality preference rating scale (0-6 where 0 is completely hetero; 7 is completely same-sex; and 1-5 denote increasing levels of same-sex attraction with 3 being equally attracted both ways. That meshed well with the stories I heard from my personal connections. In other words, a 4 and a 6 may both refer to themselves as gay, and both may find Jesus (or both may find Baha’u’llah) but if they both try to live a hetero life because of new-found commitments, I suspect the 4 will have a much easier transition than 6. The 4 (or even a 2 or a 3!) may well go on the lecture circuit proclaiming how Jesus (or the Baha’i Faith) has cured them of homosexuality because they are able to live like a 1. I suspect it is far less likely that the 6 will experience this triumphant success. I suspect the 5’s and 6’s are the people who recount anguish, shame and heartbreak when they attempt to change their lives in conformity to new commitments. This is my humble, anecdotal and conjectural opinion. It is hard to imagine that anyone would ever attempt to use it as an actual research hypothesis however.

I do know one Baha'i who considered herself as a lesbian years ago and s now happily married (last I heard.) She used to be on this list. 'll leave it to her if she wants to identify herself. __________________________________________________ ou are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:[email protected] nsubscribe: send a blank email to mailto:leave-619009-1275591.ef24b475e5f10a74e6628cf12d307...@list.jccc.edu ubscribe: send subscribe bahai-st in the message body to [email protected] r subscribe: http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/all_forums/subscribe?name=bahai-st aha'i Studies is available through the following: ail - mailto:[email protected] eb - http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/?forum=bahai-st ews (on-campus only) - news://list.jccc.edu/bahai-st ld Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] ew Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] __________________________________________________ You are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:[email protected] Unsubscribe: send a blank email to mailto:leave-619060-27401.54f46e81b66496c9909bcdc2f7987...@list.jccc.edu Subscribe: send subscribe bahai-st in the message body to [email protected] Or subscribe: http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/all_forums/subscribe?name=bahai-st Baha'i Studies is available through the following: Mail - mailto:[email protected] Web - http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/?forum=bahai-st News (on-campus only) - news://list.jccc.edu/bahai-st Old Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] New Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]
