The Baha'i Studies Listserv

The issue is that some people are left feeling torn apart by a great desire on
the one hand to please their Creator and a feeling of helplessness on the other
hand to change their inner cravings. It is certainly not our place to sit in
judgment, but rather to show compassion regarding an excruciating dilemma in
which our brothers and sisters sometimes find themselves.

It is true that some people who feel sexual attraction towards the same sex
have chosen and learned to avoid the behavior, and perhaps even some of the
thoughts, which they believe displease God. It is also true that others have
tried again and again to make these changes and have been unable. It is as
unscientific to say no one can make these changes as it is to say anyone or
everyone can.

Religions are a powerful motivator for personal change, but not the only
motivator. And any given motivator does not work for every person or all the
time. As Paul observed in Romans 7:14-25, life is still a struggle.

Peace,
Gary

ear Megan,
I don't think the purpose of this thread is to pass judgement on
nyone. I think the real issue may have something to do with the
ompatibility of the Baha'i Teachings on this topic in relationship
ith what medical science is currently saying.

People worry too much about what other people are doing or not doing.
Christ said to remove the mote from your own eye before attempting to remove
it from your brother's. He also stated that he who is without sin can cast
the first stone and that judgement is reserved unto the Father (God).
Consequently, the only people we can truly speculate about and still be ok
with our Creator, is ourselves. We are admonished to call ourselves to
account daily. No where in any of the Holy Books are we told to call others
to account. It is not ours to require. Only God can judge the heart of any
 one.
